Q. How long does the certification last?

A. The American Heart Association course completion cards are good for two years.

Q. Why do classes vary in length?

A. With the exception of the BLS for Healthcare Provider, students have the option of enhancing their course with different modules such as Infant CPR, AED, and Environmental Emergencies. This take more time to learn.

Q. Do the first aid courses meet Labor and Industries requirements?

A. Yes, as long as Environmental Emergencies is included in the course, the course meets OSHA (29 CFR 1910.151) and WISHA (WAC 296-800-150).

Q. How much advance notice is required to schedule a course?

A. This depends on our availability. Usually, only a few days is necessary. There have been instances of courses given on the same day they were scheduled. Keep in mind that group rates do not apply when the course is instructed with less than 24 hours notice.

Q. Why aren't scheduled courses offered?

A. We have tried this in the past. The Kitsap area does not support the demand for this. Based on web traffic, we may re-address this in the future.

Q. Do I need to buy the book?

A. All American Heart Association courses have required reading. You can purchase the student workbooks by visiting the relevant page on this site. Ideally, the student will have read the material prior to attending the course.

Q. Will there be a test?

A.This depends. The BLS for HCP course offers a 20 question written exam at its conclussion. All CPR courses finish with a practical skills assessment that is pass or fail. The first aid courses end each module with an open book group quiz.
